For those of you who have been around Walt Disney World and Disneyland have seen a multitude of changes to their “skip-the-line” systems. We’ve had Fastpass, Fastpass+, Genie+, and now Lightning Lane. Luckily, we have plenty of time to understand the new system before it is implemented within the parks.
Disneyland vs Walt Disney World
The branding & naming are changing at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, however the actual system itself is only changing at Walt Disney World. The following information will only apply to Walt Disney World, starting July 24th 2024.
When Can I Book my Lightning Lane Experiences?
Guests staying on-property are able to book their experiences 7 days ahead of their check-in date for the entirety of their trip (up to 14 days ahead). This includes guests at Walt Disney World resorts, Shades of Green, and the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. Off-property guests will be able to book their experiences 3 days ahead of each park day. If you’re doing three park days, you’ll have three different booking days, too.
Experiences may be booked at 7AM Eastern Time on your applicable day.
What types of passes are there?
- Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly Individual Lightning Lane)
- This pass will give you access to the most in-demand attractions. These attractions are not available with the Multi Pass. You may select up to 2 Single Passes each day, subject to availability.
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass (formerly Genie+)
- This pass will allow you to book up to 3 attractions from the Multi Pass list
- Once you’ve enjoyed your first experience, you may book an additional experience, subject to availability.
- Receive digital downloads of select attraction photos and videos from your day
How do I book my experiences?
You will book all your experiences via your My Disney Experience app. Prior to your booking day, make sure your resort reservation is linked (if applicable), park tickets are linked, and you have an updated Friends & Family list with your travel party. If you have your travel party all connected, you’ll be able to reserve for everyone together.
Available attraction times will be viewable before you commit to purchasing, however times may go quickly. You are able to select / change times throughout your day, subject to availability.
